A superb three-tier étagère with bronze casters, hand-crafted in Ireland by the Robert Strahan & Co. furniture makers, circa 1840.

Founded in 1776 as a cabinet maker, Robert Strahan & Co. grew to become one of Ireland’s premiere furniture designers, exhibiting at The Great Industrial Exhibition of 1853 in Dublin.

This étagère, also known as a buffet or a serving trolley, is made of mahogany with Victorian columns and turned feet ending in bronze casters, which are fully functional after 180 years. The piece is in excellent condition for its age, with its finish and luster intact. Marked at the bottom with the company name, and the number 36530. It also has its original paper label underneath the top shelf.
