Khmer Sculpture Fragment, Early 20th C.
$1,410.00
Product Description
A hand fragment holding a scroll, reclaimed from a Khmer stone statue. East Thailand, early 20th Century.
Hand-carved in brown ochre sandstone, the fragment was part of a garden temple sculpture of a Khmer deity, showing a time-conferred patina and weathered appearance.
This type of statues have been common in the Khmer culture in Cambodia and Thailand since the 12 Century, and remained ubiquitous in gardens, temples and other places across the area for generations. Some losses are present in the fingers area, date unknown. However, the intricacy of the details can still be appreciated throughout the piece.
The fragment rests freely on a bespoke black metal stand, with a base measuring 9.5″ wide x 4″ deep, for a total height of 11 inches.
