A hanging scroll with a camellia flower painting, by Japanese artist Matsumura Keibun (1779-1843).

The younger half-brother to Matsumura Goshun, founder of the Shijo school of Japanese painting, Keibun received his first art lessons from Goshun. By 1813, Keibun had become one of the most famous artists of the Shijo style, and became mainly known for his prolific depictions of birds and flowers. This signed scroll depicts a camellia flower and branches on parchment silk, framed and accentuated by rich silk brocade.

Includes its original wood box.
