Two tabletop sculptures depicting Buddha hands in different “mudras” or positions, Indonesia, mid-20th Century.
One depicts the “Abhaya” mudra or position, which symbolizes fearlessness. The other one is the “Gyan” mudra, where the index and thumb fingers unite to form a circle, and symbolizes focus, wisdom and knowledge.
Each sculpture is hand-carved out of black volcanic rock, and mounted in a made-to-measure black metal stand.
