Sandstone Buddha Head, Early 20th C.

A hand-carved sandstone Buddha head, reclaimed from an early 20th Century Cambodian statue.

Intricately crafted in the front and back, with a serene meditative expression, this small sculpture captures both the traditional spiritual heritage of ancient Buddhism and the fine craftsmanship of modern Southeast Asian artisans, who have preserved the art through the centuries.

The sculpture presents signs of exposure, which suggests it was part of an outdoor statue.
It now rests freely on a 4″ x 4″ x 1.5″ black metal stand.
